Happy Anniversary

Yesterday was our 60th wedding anniversary - oh I mean our 13th wedding anniversary. It just felt like I was spending the day with an old man because of the series of unfortunate (but comical) events.
We had decided to go visit our friends the Fellers in Las Vegas because they are so fun and because we had not seen them in a while. We enjoyed a great weekend and planned an easy direct flight to get us home yesterday (our anniversary) at 3pm with plenty of time to cook a nice dinner and relax together. So we get dropped off at the airport and check in and make it through security without any problem. It was as we were heading to our gate that John realized he left his new iphone in Jed's car. We had about 35 minutes before the plane was to take off and maybe 15 minutes until boarding time. John called Jed (who was almost home) and planned to meet him at the curb and race back to make the flight. I stayed at the gate with Jack hoping John would make it back in time but doubting he would. I boarded the plane and saved John a seat and after everyone else was on, in ran John ... with seconds to spare. He sat down beside me and I asked him where he put his backpack. He instantly realized that he had left it at security. I seriously thought he was kidding but he wasn't. So John got on the phone trying to figure out how to have Jed pick up his backpack and the flight attendant got on the phone and asked for a volunteer to give up their seat for $200 and take a later flight. John jumped up and asked if his wife could join him. They told him that they could not guarantee a seat on that flight for Jack and me. As John got off he called down the aisle and asked if I wanted him to take Jack. The lady next to me said, "NO! He'll forget him at the security check point!". I had gotten to know the people around me and they were amused at the series of events and knew it was our anniversary. So we are sitting there waiting for the plane to get moving and the flight attendant gets back on the speaker and asks Joelle Staley to come forward and find her husband because it turns out they need a second person to give up their seat on this flight. I stood up with Jack and the back half of the plane applauded us.
We had 4 hours to kill and quickly ran out of ideas in the airport so we took a taxi to a nice mall near the airport. It ended up being a fun day of shopping and hanging out together. Just as we were getting ready to grab a taxi and return to the airport John ran into one last store to buy a pair of shorts and realized his wallet was missing. I am not kidding! We had to retrace our steps and found it on the counter of another store we had been in. He could have so easily not realized it was missing until we were back at the airport trying to get through security. That probably would have ruined the day but as it was we had a pretty good anniversary.

I have never thought of John as forgetful. I love that the lady told you not to give Jack to John. Too funny!

That's hilarious. I'm sorry you are married to an OLD man. I think I may be, too. He lost his american express for the 6th time this year a few days ago. He has them on speed dial. All in all, though, I think it's a pretty good excuse for missing the phone call!
